About

Artist Heather Zak-Malcolm

Heather Zak-Malcolm’s creative realism style is a fusion of fact and fantasy - a visual art adventure exploring scenes and landscapes simultaneously familiar and otherworldly, through multimedia and acrylic painting. Creative realism combines the foundational principles of realism and observation with imaginative composition to create a unique modern art style.

Heather began her career as an award-winning daily newspaper columnist, an editor, author, and photographer. Widowed with four children in her 30s, Heather went back to university, working for 30 years as a leader in the health and nonprofit sector, including a hospital, a hospice facility, United Way, and an Ontario Premier’s Council. She was a speaker or organizer for over 100 conferences and events. She studied journalism and photography at Ryerson University, social work at University of Waterloo, and art at St. Clair College and the Toronto School of Art. Her art works reflect her years of world travel.

Heather currently divides her time between Ottawa and the lovely woodland setting at Winding Road Gallery outside Renfrew, Ontario with husband Mark and puppy Jazz Man.
